Enjoy Some Halloween Tales With These Latest eBooks From Oceanhouse Media

October 19, 2010
Oceanhouse Media continues to bring some great childrens literature to our iDevices in wonderfully designed and enjoyably interactive eBooks. The latest releases include Joe Troiano's The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin and the Dr. Seuss' short story What was I Scared of?. Both titles make for fun experiences and are good ways to teach the "little ones" about tolerance. Each app has three ways to experience the story: “Read it Myself” allows reading and viewing the material in the same manner that traditional books would offer, “Read to Me” highlights each word as it is professional narrated, and “Auto Play” adds narration but also automatically turns the page when it is completed. This is a nice feature for very young children, or to just make the experience a little more like a movie. Some additional features to help promote reading and provide even more enjoyment include words that are spoken and zoom up when pictures are touched, custom background audio for each scene, plus fun animations and sounds to help pages come alive. A wonderful combination of capabilities to compliment the passionate artwork of Dr. Seuss and Susan Banta. Strikingly narrated by Bobby "Boris" Pickett, who is known for his co-writing and vocals of the popular spoof song Monster Mash, The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin begins “one day in the pumpkin patch the strangest little pumpkin hatched.” Spookley found himself at the delight of no one. When a furious storm came upon the patch one night, he recognized that not being the same doesn't mean you need to feel ashamed. Dr. Seuss' What was I Scared of? is a tale about a character that continues to come upon a an empty pair of pale-green pants. The pants provide utter fear for our character, as they can move about without anyone wearing them. When he screams for help, the pale-pants begin to cry, and that's when the character understands "They were just as scared as I!" As with most of Oceanhouse Media's previous releases, both of these titles are universally compatible with iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin is available for $2.99, while the shorter What was I Scared of? is priced at $1.99.
