Let Your Facebook Friends Help Motivate You By Cheering You On In the Latest Nike+ GPS

October 9, 2010
The standalone Nike+ GPS got its first major update since it was released about a month ago. Nike+ GPS v2.0 adds a way for your friends to cheer you on, share your run status and statistics via Twitter or Facebook, an easier view of your best runs, one more PowerSong, and some bug fixes. What appears to be the most significant addition is the integration of Twitter and Facebook tweeting and posting abilities. Apps like RunKeeper Pro and Runmeter have offered the ability to announce your running status for some time now, but Nike has decided to take things a bit further. Nike+ GPS v2.0 doesn't just post that you've begun a run on Facebook, it also relays any "Like"s and comments of your status back to you, providing some extra encouragement or challenges your friends may shout your way. Nike has also included what they dub "One More PowerSong", a final boost to the end of your run to help you push it that final few minutes before calling it quits. To help you continue your stride for improvement, you can now easily view your very best past runs, making it even easier to know what you need to shoot for the next time out. Nike+ GPS is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPod touch (2nd generation or later) running iOS 4.0 or later. iPod touch users do not get the mapping capabilities due to lack of GPS tracking. The "Cheer Me On" feature requires a continuous Internet connection, which will add to battery drain. Nike+ GPS is available in the App Store for $1.99.
