Protector: The Planes Joins Game Center And Gets iOS 4 Multitasking Support

October 26, 2010
NTT Resonant has added two of the four most sought after features on an iOS gamer's wishlist to their tower defense game. Protector: The Planes v1.0.2 adds fast app switching and Game Center integration. When playing the game on an iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, or iPod touch (2nd generation or later) running iOS 4.0 or later, you no longer need to be nervous about an incoming phone call or other interruption destroying your progress. Jumping back into the game resumes things right where you left off. If you happen to be using iOS 4.1 on an iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, or iPod touch (2nd generation or later), then here's your chance to add a bit more of a challenge using Apple's Game Center. Attempt to earn all 19 achievements (590 points), or just work your way to the top of the five leaderboards: Overall, Casual, Casual Elite, Hardcore, and Hardcore Elite. The Protector series has been available on the personal computer market since 2008. The first four releases have been played over 50 million times since the original debut. The fifth release, Protector: The Planes, makes its way in an exclusive version that's only available on the App Store. Take part in building a line of defense using super-powered medieval warriors. You're provided an initial five basic units, with five more unlockable advanced units. Before a wave is to be unleashed upon you, there's a summary of the creature's required hit-points, gold pieces you'll gain by killing, experience you'll obtain, plus the monster's strengths and weaknesses. There are opportunities to place units before the battle is waged, between waves, and at any other time by pausing the game. To pause the game and show the unit controls, tap on the dagger in the bottom-right. Tap-and-drag a unit to the desired location to add him to your army. Upgrade characters by simply tapping on them, which can be performed during active or paused gameplay. If you have enough gold, just tap on the Level-Up icon and select which attributes you want to improve. Allowing an enemy unit to reach its destination will result in the loss of one health point. Your health and gold indicators are located in the bottom-left of the screen. Once you've successfully conquered all of the waves of enemy creatures, you'll unlock new maps to embark on defending. There are 32 total maps and 40 different enemies to test your strategy skills. Protector: The Planes is available in the App Store for $1.99, and compatible with iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 3.0 or later. Here's to hoping on Retina display support next.
