Verizon iPhone Reaches Final Stage Of Testing?

October 19, 2010
According to a recent post over at Boy Genius Report, the reported Verizon iPhone has recently hit the final "AP" stage of testing. This, according to BGR's source, is the final stage of testing before retail release. However, that's not all. Apparently, the Verizon iPhone (or at the very least, the CDMA-compatible iPhone), contains a SIM card slot. This is unexpected, and could be due to a variety of different reasons, all of which Boy Genius Report aptly outlined. Perhaps we're looking at a CDMA + GSM/HSPA iPhone, which would support all carrier frequencies worldwide. This would be interesting; Verizon iPhone owners would effectively be using the same handset AT&T iPhone customers use. Alternatively, the SIM card slot could be for roaming; this seems a little unnecessary, but it is a possibility. Lastly, the Verizon iPhone could just be slightly different, altered so it isn't afflicted with the infamous iPhone 4 antenna issue. What's more, BGR's source also stated that the iPhone 5 has reached the "EVT" stage of testing: the engineering verification test stage.
