Apple Limiting Users To Three Find My iPhone Account Setups Per Device?

November 28, 2010
Apple is reportedly limiting iDevice users to three Find My iPhone account setups per device. The company recently announced, in a press release, that Find My iPhone would be a free service for all iDevice users. Previously, users had to have a MobileMe subscription ($99/year) in order to take advantage of the service. By simply registering your Apple ID on a "qualifying device," users can now track their iDevice through the Find My iPhone app, or online, at no extra cost. This means that if you own an older device, you have to first register your Apple ID on an iPhone 4, iPad, or iPod touch (4G) before setting up Find My iPhone on your own handset. However, according to TiPb, Apple is, in fact, limiting the number of account setups users can make on their iPhone 4, iPad, and iPod touch (4G) devices. As you can see in the above screenshot, it is possible to create a "maximum number of accounts" on a single iDevice. Once this has happened, an additional message is displayed:
Account Limit Reached This device is no longer eligible for creating a free MobileMe account.
So beware: if you own a "qualifying device," you can only register three Apple IDs for the free Find My iPhone service. Furthermore, there doesn't seem to be a way for users to remove registered accounts from their iDevice; once you've registered three, then that's it. The game is over. If you've experienced this message on your iPhone 4, iPad, or iPod touch (4G), let us know in the comments below.
