Facebook App Adds 1.6 Million Users Since Christmas Eve

After turning on their new devices, iPhone/iPod touch newbies search out the “best” apps available in the App Store. One of those, the Facebook app, has seen a huge jump in downloads since Christmas Eve. This isn't just good news for Facebook. Rather, it shows Apple probably had a very good holiday, in terms of sales.
The Facebook app was downloaded 1.6 million times since December 24. The app now counts 55.7 million monthly active users. Since November 27, Facebook for iPhone has gained 4.6 million monthly active users, which is approximately nine percent growth.

The Facebook app isn't new to the App Store. These new downloads almost certainly come from the activation of new Apple devices. They suggest Apple will be saying "Merry Christmas" once their new sales numbers are announced early in 2011.
According to The Business Insider, this compares to 20.9 million monthly users for the Facebook for Android app. Facebook for Blackberry has 26.9 million active users.
