iBooks Updated: Adds Collections, Illustrations, And AirPrint

December 15, 2010
Apple's iBooks application has recently been updated, and now includes illustrations, AirPrint support, and collections (similar to folders for e-books). As Apple states in the application's release notes:
  • Experience fully illustrated books, from children's picture books to beautifully designed art books, available for download in the iBookstore.
  • Organize your books and PDFs into personal Collections. Swipe left or right to jump between Collections.
  • Print PDF documents and notes you've written in iBooks using AirPrint.
  • iBooks now fits more words per page by automatically hyphenating text, available only on iOS 4.2 or later.
Now, users can organize e-books into categories via "collections." A user's iBooks "collections" can be viewed from the bookshelf. This is a great feature, and one that will definitely be appreciated by iBooks users who have a large number of e-books synced with their device. Additionally, illustrated e-books are a great feature of iBooks' latest version (1.2). The iPad's 9.7-inch screen perfectly suits illustrated digital books; the new titles (mainly in the "Children & Teens" category) look stunning in iBooks for iPad. Last, AirPrint support will be appreciated by users with an AirPrint-enabled printer and who often annotate e-books. Users will also be able to AirPrint PDFs and notes from within the iBooks app. So, what are you waiting for? Head over to the App Store, and check out the updated version of iBooks now. And, as always, feel free to post your thoughts in the comments below.
