Jailbreak Only: Air Home Video - Stream Camera Roll Videos To Apple TV, Via AirPlay

December 5, 2010
Air Home Video is a new jailbreak tweak which allows users to "AirPlay" videos from an iPhone or iPad's Camera Roll, without having to transfer them to iTunes first. If you own an Apple TV, you've probably tried out AirPlay. This new feature allows users to stream media from iTunes to another AirPlay-enabled device. Conveniently, Apple TV (2G) is one such device. However, it is currently not possible for users to legitimately stream videos directly from their iDevice to Apple TV, which is annoying. Instead, users have to transfer videos shot on an iPhone over to iTunes, and then stream the video from iTunes to Apple TV. However, this painful shortcoming can be corrected, thanks to the jailbreak community. As MacStories notes, Air Home Video (available in Cydia for $0.99) allows users to stream content directly from their iDevice to Apple TV. Importantly, this method requires no cables whatsoever. Before you can stream videos, they first need to be compressed by Air Home Video. This doesn't take too long. And, once compression is completed, streaming to Apple TV works "like a charm." Obviously, the app is compatible only with iOS 4.2.1. Currently, it's available in Cydia via the BigBoss repository for $0.99.
