Loopt Updated - Brings Rewards, "Ping" Enhancements, And More

The popular iOS app, Loopt, has just received a major update. Now, users of the app can take advantage of "rewards," and send "free location-aware" text messages. If you're not familiar with the app, here's a quick description, provided by Loopt's developer:

Life just got more interesting. Loopt is the best way to see what's happening around you – which friends (from Loopt and Facebook) are nearby, which bars are hopping, and which restaurants your friends like to go to. Use Loopt’s free location-aware text messaging (“Ping”) to connect with friends, and find places to go, when you’re out and about.

The latest version of Loopt brings a variety of changes and improvements. As you can see from the app's release notes, the application has never been better:

• Free location-aware text messaging (expanding the popular Loopt “Ping” feature).
• Completely upgraded design and simplified user experience with significantly improved friend- and place-finding capabilities.
• See the places where your friends are gathering, right now.
• Ping all your friends who are at a place.
• New notifications area, with information about “hot” places, rewards nearby, friend updates, and more.
• Simplified Automatic Location Sharing so you can easily share your location with a subset of close friends/family as you move around. (Everyone else will only see you when you choose to check in.)
• New friend lists, sorted into nearby, recent, and by name.
• Rewards! Get rewarded for checking into places. (We’ve bought Loopt Star rewards to Loopt, so you can all enjoy rewards!)

Previously, Loopt Rewards had only been available via Loopt Star; a reward-specific iOS app which we told you about back in June. Now, however, this latest version of Loopt integrates these rewards within the main application, which is handy. The "ping" feature within Loopt is a clever idea. Essentially, a "ping" is a geo-tagged text message. With "ping," you'll never have to ask exactly where your friend is ever again. Instead, just "ping" them. So, what are you waiting for?
