mSpot Music: A Free Cloud-Based Music Streaming Service

December 15, 2010
Today, mSpot Music hit the App Store. The app, which is already available on Android devices, gives users a free cloud-based music streaming service. Once your iTunes library has been uploaded to "the cloud," users can access it from an iPhone, or desktop computer. As mSpot, Inc. states in the application's release notes:
Imagine iTunes music in the Cloud… Enjoy your music anywhere– in two easy steps: 1. Go to www.mSpot.com and put your iTunes collection from your PC/Mac into your own personal music locker on the Internet. Once you've uploaded your music "into the Cloud" – you can access it anytime, anywhere from your iPhone or any PC/Mac. 2. Download the mSpot Music app for your iPhone. All your online music will magically be there already! Throw away your USB cord and say goodbye to manual syncing – mSpot does it all auto-magically for you.
Currently, the service is free for the first 2GB of online storage you use. Beyond that, mSpot charges $3.99 per month for up to 40GB of music stored "in the cloud." However, this is a small price to pay for a cloud-based streaming service. And, if you can manage on 2GB of music (around 1600 songs), then mSpot is completely free. The application itself works in the background, syncing your music on a day-to-day basis. Users can choose to sync with their iTunes library, or with specific folders on their computer's hard drive. Whenever changes occur, mSpot notices them and transfers new tracks to the "cloud." Both the desktop and iOS app are free. For more information, head over to mSpot on your desktop, or check out the mSpot Music iOS application in the App Store.
