Real Racing For iPhone And iPod Touch Updated With Online Multiplayer
December 17, 2010
Even though Real Racing 2 is now available in the App Store, Firemint has not forgotten about their original high-performance fanatics. Real Racing for iPhone and iPod touch now has the ability for users to take on other racers over the Internet in a quick race style of play.
The online play utilizes Apple's Game Center social gaming network, including the option of auto-matchmaking when you don't have any or enough friends to invite. The system supports anywhere from two to four players in a lobby.
To use this new feature, tap on Connected in the main menu area, then tap on the Online button all the way to the right. Once in the lobby, you can choose your car and course, then just wait for the race to begin.
Real Racing HD had already been provided with this feature in the last update, which appeared right before iOS 4.2 was released. While my guess is that it's an everyone in Game Center is invited party, we haven't tested whether iPad users can play against iPhone and iPod touch owners and vice-versa.
Speaking of Game Center, Firemint has also activated leaderboards for all courses, and now allows direct access to the leaderboard without the need to jump to the Game Center app. When in Time Trial, highlight your course and tap on the View Leaderboard in the bottom-left.
Real Racing is available in the App Store for $4.99. Game Center features require iOS 4.1 or later.
