TomTom Map Share: Stay Current Between Full Map Updates

December 21, 2010
TomTom has updated their iPhone navigation apps with new map data and a way to stay up-to-date with the ever changing roadways by offering users access to their Map Share technology. Find yourself realizing that a turn or an entire road no longer exists because it's a change that occurred between full map updates? While it may not help you with that first unforeseen run-in with a changed street, Map Share makes you the guinea pig only once. The Map Share feature is available in the main menu. To make a correction, go to Map Share, move the cursor over the portion of the road you need to change, and then tap on its name. You can choose to block or unblock the entire roadway, cut off a portion, or change its name. These changes are applied immediately on your map data. Making corrections to errors you've noticed is good and all, but Map Share provides the benefit from all users submitting their data. By default, the TomTom app checks for Map Share updates once per week, but you can also request a check manually. The corrections are also shared with Map Share capable standalone TomTom GPS units. Because people can make mistakes or users could try to pull a prank with inaccurate fixes, Map Share correction submissions are verified by TomTom before being released to all of their customers. The latest map data and Map Share accessibility is included in all of TomTom's iPhone apps. Price of apps vary by region and store, so check your local App Store for more details.
