The UK-based newspaper, The Guardian, is reportedly planning on introducing a new "subscription-based app" in the App Store before Christmas.
Last month, we told you Apple is rumored to be holding an event in mid-December, during which it might announce iOS 4.3, "app subscriptions," and the Daily. The tablet-only newspaper, which is the product of Apple and News Corp.'s joint effort, is believed to be the first app to take advantage of Apple's "app subscription" service.
As of this moment, it is not yet known whether The Guardian's subscription-based application will work in-line with Apple's "app subscriptions." According to AppleInsider, the application will cost "£2.99 for six months and £3.99 for 12 months."
Jonathan Moore, the mobile product manager for the newspaper, did not confirm that The Guardian's upcoming application will take advantage of Apple's "app subscriptions." However, he did state:
We'll be launching the new app globally for the first time and although we can't confirm exactly when it will be available, we're working towards a pre-Christmas release. The rumored introduction of "app subscriptions" would allow users to have recurring subscriptions for an application through a single iTunes account. This would make it possible for iDevice owners to purchase editions of a newspaper app, or magazine app, automatically - without having to visit the App Store, or make an in-app purchase, each time a new edition becomes available. Apple's expected special event, in which iOS 4.3 is rumored to be announced, is believed by many to take place on December 9. Do you think Apple will announce a new version of the iOS next week?
