BBC iPlayer iOS Application Coming Soon?

January 27, 2011
The official BBC iPlayer iOS application is in its final stages of development, and may launch by the end of February. Back in December, we told you about the BBC's plans to launch a "global, subscription only" iPlayer application. Apple fans would be able to tune in to their favorite shows, such as Doctor Who and Top Gear, via the app from anywhere in the world - for a price. Over in the UK, iPlayer is free for TV license paying residents to use. According to paidContent:UK, the official iPlayer app is almost ready.
The service’s web-native version already works on iPhone and iPad, to a fashion. Executable app versions are likely to work a lot better. Some Android users have complained about lack of plans for their smartphones. The service will be available only in the UK, though BBC Worldwide is planning an international, subscription iPlayer containing different shows. [sic]
We'll keep you updated on the status of the official BBC iPlayer iOS application. In the meantime, let us know your thoughts on the upcoming app in the comments below.
