iPhone And iPad Apps Gone Free: Birds+, Chop Chop Ninja, Twenty-Five, And Newtonize

January 6, 2011

As Tyler once again helps cover the iDevice news directly from the event show floor and some behind-the-scenes tidbits, I'll be the one temporarily taking over AGF. I'm only an apprentice at this, so the selection may not be as up to snuff, but I'll do my best.

Today's AGF list includes a nice bird sounds app, an enjoyable platformer, a mind game testing your recognition and reflex skills, and a 3D cartoon-style shooter involving Isaac Newton and his iconic apple.

All app prices are subject to change at any time and without notice regardless of stated free duration. Price changes are solely under the control of the developers.

iPhone:

Birds+ ($.99 -> Free): Containing 80 bird sounds and photos spanning the across four major regions, this app can help you fall asleep, relax, or just add to your decor. Offering a hierarchy-style navigation, you will filter down to your favorite feathered friends. The app also contains a multi-play soundboard, wake and sleep timers, plus in-app Wikipedia access .

Birds+ is available for free today only (01/06). It has a four-and-a-half-star rating and a total of seven ratings.

Chop Chop Ninja ($2.99 -> Free): An arcade-style side-scrolling platformer where your slicing and dicing can be unleashed. No control buttons, just tap on or behind an enemy to attack, tap above your ninja to jump, and tap and hold to run. Tap repeatedly to make your way up walls. OpenFeint integration offers a number of leaderboards and achievements to earn.

Chop Chop Ninja is available for free today only (01/06). It has a three-and-a-half-star rating and a total of 111 ratings.

Twenty-Five(超級25) ($.99 -> Free): A test of your recognition skills. A simple concept with the challenge of being as efficient as possible. Tap on the numbers in proper sequence: 1,2,3, etc. Each round increases the grid size until you reach a total of 25 tiles. The three difficulty modes only differ in that the tiles begin to further differentiate by color.

Twenty-Five(超級25) is available for free for a limited time. It has a three-star rating and a total of 14 ratings.

Universal:

Newtonize ($0.99 -> Free): Isaac Newton is being ambushed by the evil gravobeasts. Help Newton as he takes a defensive position atop his house. Tap in the desired area to toss down apples to kill these creatures. Initially, creatures will move only vertically, but soon you'll find yourself needing to anticipate attacks from diagonal approaches. Includes Game Center leaderboards for each of the three difficulty modes.

Newtonize is available for free for a limited time. It has a four-and-a-half-star rating and a total of nine ratings. Developers: If you are a developer who would like to get your app included in our “Apps Gone Free” daily lists, here’s our basic set of rules:
  • The app must be free for a 24 hour period.
  • It must have at least a three-star average rating at the time it goes free.
  • The app must not have been free numerous times (3+) over the last six months.
To submit an app, simply send a request to tyler@appadvice.com with the subject “Apps Gone Free.” Please include the name of the app, a link to it in the App Store, when you intend to offer the app for free and anything else you would like to share. We will take it from there.
