Jailbreak Only: George "Geohot" Hotz To Release Untethered Solution For iOS 4.2.1?

January 3, 2011
George "geohot" Hotz, the mastermind behind the iOS 4.1 limera1n jailbreak tool, reportedly has an untethered solution for iOS 4.2.1. As of this moment, no final untethered jailbreak tool has been released by the Dev-Team. Recently, one disgruntled jailbreak fan commented on the recent Twitter communication between MuscleNerd and his peers, stating:
@sherif_hashim @MuscleNerd @iphone_dev @chpwn keep up with your soap opera and geo will be slapping another reality check on you [sic]
To which MuscleNerd replied:
@ipodguy79 I hear geohot does have an untether actually! Though not for all devices.
Interesting, wouldn't you say? As mentioned, only a beta version of an untethered jailbreak tool for iOS 4.2.1 (iPhone 4, iPad), has been released. However, redsn0w 0.9.7b1 is far from perfect, and will disable your iDevice's Bluetooth connectivity. As of this moment, a good tethered version of redsn0w is available to download. Since the solution is "tethered," users will have to boot their device using redsn0w if it's turned off (in order to return jailbreak app functionality). According to MuscleNerd's reply, George Hotz may well release an untethered jailbreak solution for iOS 4.2.1 in the near future. Unfortunately, it won't be universal. However, we only need it to work with the iPhone 4 and iPad (as redsn0w provides older devices with an untethered solution). We'll keep you posted.
