Nike+ GPS Continues To Distance Itself With The Addition Of The Classic Game Of "Tag"
January 15, 2011
At its initial launch, many couldn't find a big reason to move to the standalone Nike+ GPS app from the built-in IOS system or another run tracking app. However, Nike has continued to distance itself from the competition, and takes another step forward by adding a running game to the feature list.
I'd be surprised to hear someone hasn't experienced the game of "Tag" sometime during their childhood. As a refresher, Tag is a game where you choose someone to be "it" and that person needs to touch, or "tag", someone else to transfer the designation. In which case, it's a game that most certainly involves plenty of running as you try to escape from becoming "it."
Not having a chance to try this addition quite yet, Nike's implementations sounds to retain the same concept. Amongst chosen friends, you pick the game type and a person who's "it." Choose to play by distance or by time. Of course, the distance mode means you need to maintain a greater run distance than the "it" person. Time, I would guess, means that the person who has run for the least amount of time gets slapped with being "it."
Where the Nike+ comments system is normally intended to motivate you by allowing friends to cheer you on, Nike has apparently turned the tables for this game, as those who would normally post, "Great job! Keep going!" will now taunt you with "Bet you can't catch me! :-P".
For anyone who has a chance to try this out, tell us whether you feel it holds up to the excitement of the original game.
Nike+ GPS is compatible with iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 4.0 or later, and available in the App Store for $1.99
