Anti Sleep Pilot: A Motorist's Tool To Help Monitor And Control Fatigue

February 17, 2011
Everyone knows that feeling of sluggishness from lack of proper sleep, or just lack of energy. Dozing off while calculating the final figures for the weekly report may have you dealing with a lecture from your boss, but falling asleep while driving can be fatal. That's why ASP Technology is proud to offer their fatigue-fighting Anti Sleep Pilot system into a convenient iOS app. Anti Sleep Pilot provides fatigue monitoring for drivers by using 26 scientifically proven parameters. The factors include elements from a multi-question personal profile, the amount of fatigue you're experiencing before getting behind the wheel, time of day, active drive time, and results from alertness maintaining tests. Alertness maintaining tests require you to tap the PUSH button when displayed on your iPhone's screen. Since you should have your iPhone properly mounted for easy viewing and access anyway, these tests are set for a two-second reaction time. If for safety reasons you cannot be distracted at the moment to complete the test, another will be administered two minutes later. You'll have up to four attempts to complete the test with a quick reaction before Anti Sleep Pilot determines you're in need of another break. The main display shows the current selected driver, fatigue level, time until next recommended break, and active mode. As the app continues to monitor the criteria, the fatigue indicator on the left will slowly fill. Once it is full, the app will turn the display red, make an alert sound, and indicate a need to pull over and take at least a 10 minute break. If the app signals Max Drive, it's a recommendation to take at least an eight hour rest or, if applicable, change drivers. As to not accidentally tap controls, swipe left or right on the top of the screen to navigate amongst the main display, statistics information, iPod control, and map. The Menu button in the bottom-right gives access to manually changing your current fatigue status, driver profile selection, trip history, settings, and manual override toggles. Anti Sleep Pilot uses the iPhone's GPS and accelerometer to measure movement. The app is smart enough to use this information to determine when you're taking a break, adjusting the fatigue level, and providing stats. If you happen to be moving too slow or stopped due to congested traffic, where the app won't recognize motion, you can go into the Menu to temporarily enable the Drive manual override. On the other hand, you can use the Break manual override if you're in motion but not driving, like on a ferry. Even though ASP Technology displays it enough, it's time for the disclaimer. Anti Sleep Pilot is an assistance tool for helping to prevent automobile accidents due to extreme fatigue. However, Anti Sleep Pilot is only a tool and you are responsible for whatever actions you may take while operating a motor vehicle with or without suggestions from the app. Anti Sleep Pilot is designed for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 running iOS 4.1 or later, with iPad 3G use available using iPad Compatibility Mode. Anti Sleep Pilot is available in the App Store with a steeper price tag of $19.99.
