Jailbreak Only: FaceTime On iPad Enabled Via New Hack

February 6, 2011
FaceTime for iPad is rumored to officially arrive with the second generation version of Apple's tablet. But, tech savvy iPad owners can enable FaceTime on their jailbroken device now, via a new hack. As you can see in the video below, the hack appears to work pretty well. However, the installation process (which you can take a look at here) does seem to be rather dense. Once enabled, the hack will allow iPad owners to participate in FaceTime calls over Wi-Fi, as required by Apple. Obviously, iPad to iPad FaceTime calls will only involve audio (as the first gen tablet doesn't feature a camera). However, when calling an iPhone or iPod touch, iPad owners will be able to experience both video and audio. If you can't wait a couple of months for the second generation iPad, take a look at the instructions and try out FaceTime for iPad yourself. Personally, I'm quite content to confine FaceTime to my iPhone 4 - for now.
