China Mobile recently stated that Apple CEO Steve Jobs is interested in developing an iPhone that could run on the carrier's network.
The carrier - which is the largest in the world by subscribers - is currently in the process of testing a fourth generation network that will run on its "homegrown TD standard." Obviously, the carrier needs smart phones to support this upcoming network. And, according to China Mobile, Steve Jobs is interested.
As Reuters reports:
"Jobs has said he's very interested in developing an iPhone that will run on TD," China Mobile Chairman Wang Jianzhou said on the sidelines of the Chinese Communist Party's consultative meeting. For this reason, we think Apple may well launch a TD version of the iPhone 5 when the handset launches later this year. Furthermore, as China Mobile's upcoming network is LTE, this could hint at a future LTE iPhone in the U.S. The iPhone is already available in China with China Unicom. If Apple supported China Mobile's upcoming network, iPhone sales in China would increase greatly. We'll keep you posted.
