Cool Things To Do With Instagram

March 31, 2011
Have you developed (pun intended) a bit of an obsession with Instagram lately? If you’re one of the millions of iPhoneographers around the world who have, you’re not alone. Lucky for us, some creative folks out there have come up with some really cool things to do with Instagram beyond simply using the app. Photojojo came up with a great list of these fun ways to play with Instagram. Bring your Instagram photos out of the iPhone and into your life! Do you want to make prints from your Instagram photos? Your hip, square photos deserve better treatment than a trip to your drugstore photo developer. TeenyTile turns your square photos into 2”x2” ceramic tiles. They come with magnetic strips so you can turn your fridge or other magnetic surface into a photo collage. Want something even smaller? Try Instagoodies, for 1”x1” stickers. You'd prefer something larger? Go to ArtFlakes for 4”x4” stickers. How about something much larger, as in wall art? Prinstagr.am turns your photos into a 20”x40” poster photo grid. But what if you want something more dimensional? Check out Instamaker, and turn those Instagram pics into mugs, posters, t-shirts, and more. Or go to Hatchcraft to turn your photos into bamboo shadow boxes. Now that Instagram allows third party developers to use their service, Instagram has been integrated into a number of apps, such as Foodspotting. Share your love of food photography! Instagram is an iPhone app. But what about the iPad? There are two cool apps you can use to view your photo stream. Flipboard, which you may already own, is a personalized news magazine that now allows you to view your Instagram feed. Offering more flexibility is Instagallery; here you can also “like” and comment on photos. The Photojojo article also features a bunch of cool websites integrating Instagram in a number of truly creative ways. One example: you can meet fellow Instagrammers in real life through a site called Instameet. But to me, the coolest thing you can do with Instagram is bring it to a real life event. Instaprint is a service that uses Instagram and a small, portable box as sort of a virtual photo booth. All the guests at the event would use a specific hashtag or tag their location. The box will print all the Instagram photos, comments and all, right on the spot! [gallery link="file"]
