Manage Mom's Scheduling Madness With MommyCal
MommyCal ($2.99) by Mommy Apps is a combination calendar, to-do, and bill reminder app that was made by a busy mom for busy moms.
As Mommy Apps (the developer) knows, time management for moms, in the workplace or at home, is a particular sort of juggling act. Mothers not only have to manage their time, budgets, and obligations, they have to manage everyone else’s too.
MommyCal is intended to let moms create multiple calendars; one for every person or pet for whom she is responsible. Calendars can be viewed by the month, week, or day.
There are a wealth of icons for almost any typical family activity. But, since every family is unique, if you don’t find an icon you need, you can easily import any image in your iPad’s photo album, and the app converts it to a usable icon.
Once you drag an icon to the appropriate day, a window opens letting you fill in all the particulars of the event and assign it to the appropriate calendar. You can create recurring events and there is also a convenient email feature.
You can select any event and have the details emailed with or without a note from within the app.
It often feels like a large part of my time is spent reminding my family of what they have to, so this is a nice touch. And, if there is a change of plans it's easy to pass along the information.
This app was made by a real mom and it shows. Just from the plethora of icons alone you feel like a friend whose life is as hectic as yours made MommyCal.
The design is lovely. I got lost in it for several hours, because it was fun to play with; it felt like I was making a productivity scrapbook rather than a calendar.
The included icons made me think of many responsibilities, small, but easy-to-forget, that I should keep track of, but don’t.
This is a stand-alone app, don’t expect anything besides email in terms of integration or sharing.
There is no syncing with any other calendars or to-do list apps, and no notifications, so I can't say the app is ready to replace a full-featured time manager.
But, I’m also not sure it was meant to, either. I am not putting away my bill reminder and calendar apps, but I am adding MommyCal. This app is a keeper.
What MommyCal gives me is a detailed visual reminder of every last thing that needs my attention. I only have to look at it once before I get out of bed, and I get more done. `
