Share Life's Special Moments With Soundtracking
SoundTracking (Free) by Schematic Labs is an app to share the "soundtrack of your life" to others.
Have you ever wondered what your "soundtrack" would be? While this isn't an app that will play customized theme music to your daily life, Soundtracking will let you share special moments as they happen, and have a "soundtrack" to go with it. In a sense, think of Soundtracking as the Instagram of music.
You'll have to set up an account to use Soundtracking, but you can also link it with your Facebook, Twitter, or Foursquare accounts. It isn't limited to just one of these networks either - you can have all three set up. An option to choose which network you want to send your soundtrack to will be available every time, which is nice so you don't spam your social profiles.
To share a moment (post a soundtrack), you can do a music search, music ID, or on the iPod app. Music Search lets you search by artist or song title; Music ID is pretty much like a Shazam within the app - hold it up to a currently playing song and it will record and search the database for a match; On the iPod app pulls whatever is currently playing from your iPod library.
Whichever method you use to find music, the next part makes it even more fun. Though it's optional and by no means necessary, you can add a photo and place to go along with the track you selected. The final part is adding a description to go along with this special moment that you've compiled. As you can guess, the location will check you in to Foursquare, and the photos will be posted and shared on all the sites.
Once these details have been filled out, you can preview your "soundtrack" before you post it. As I mentioned earlier, this is the screen that you can select which social sites to send this soundtrack to, which will be displayed at the top. The center of the screen is filled with album art or your photo, along with an iTunes preview of the track and accompanying iTunes link. The bottom will show your description, or the default #soundtracking message if you didn't fill that out.
When you send that soundtrack out to your social networks, others will see a link. This link takes them to a page that displays all of the mentioned information - track information and snippet, iTunes link, album art/photo, and description. Indeed, it is very much an Instagram for music.
When you add your social networks, you will immediately follow anyone that you know that already has the app. Their soundtracks will appear in the Feed, where you can preview their soundtracks and comment, like, or love it. All the comments and likes/loves can be displayed as well, with links to follow other people.
Trending is pretty much like Instagram's own "Popular" section - soundtracks that are getting a lot of comments, views, likes, or loves from other users. Notes simply displays your notifications, such as new follows, comments, likes, and loves. You can view your own profile in the More tab, as well as access the Settings.
Settings is where you go to manage the notifications as well as push settings. There are options to find friends from Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare too.
So far, I'm loving Soundtracking. The interface is smooth, fast, and intuitive. It is very similar to Instagram, but can also be thought of as a much improved Ping. There are reports that the location services isn't working with some users, but that seems to be the only flaw so far. I haven't had any problems with the app during my testing aside from that.
