ZumoCast Mysteriously Returns To The App Store, But It's Incomplete (Updated)

March 9, 2011
Update: The mystery continues as ZumoCast's new life was brief. We've confirmed that the iOS app is no longer in the App Store. We'll continue our attempts to unearth the details and keep our readers as informed as possible. [Thanks to the tip by Mr. Floppy] --- After their acquisition by Motorola late last year, Zecter briefly removed the ZumoCast iOS app from the App Store and the hosting software download links from their web site while they updated them in order "to meet unspecified guidelines." Earlier today, ZumoCast finally reappeared in the App Store. Although, the return is very mysterious and even incomplete. Many will no doubt rejoice at the return, but there are still some questions to be answered. Foremost, the version available in the App Store right now is ZumoCast v1.2.1, which was released back in late November. Something of a head-scratcher and concern is the fact the host software links have not yet been reactivated as of this post. The host software is the key component to use the service. With no new blog posts, no updated app description, and no explanation from the company as of yet; it's unclear if the changes are primarily with the media hosting software and how long it will be until that essential piece of the puzzle reappears as well. Until then, this story isn't over and doesn't have a happy ending just yet. ZumoCast is a wireless streaming service that allows users to access their music, videos, and photos from nearly any device at home and on-the-go. The free applications and account provide a dynamic streaming and on-the-fly conversion ability of numerous formats from multiple folders on your home personal computers. Remote access works over Wi-Fi or cellular and typically requires no additional networking setup. Content can be streamed live or downloaded to your device for offline viewing, including better performance on unstable data connections. ZumoCast is available on numerous platforms via optimized applications or even a web app. ZumoCast is a free universal app compatible with iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch running iOS 3.0 or later. However, the Mac OS X and Windows host software is currently not available for download. We'll keep you posted as new details unfold.
