PBS For iPad Now Offers AirPlay And Multitasking Support, Plus More

April 16, 2011
PBS fans with iPads got a treat today, an update that fixes several issues and adds a few nice features. The highlights of the update consist of the addition of AirPlay and multitasking support, plus a fix for the audio / orientation hardware switch. PBS for iPad v1.2 now offers AirPlay functionality to those who've equipped their home entertainment setup(s) with Apple TV(s). For iDevice owners who may not be quite as versed in Apple gadget features; AirPlay provides wireless streaming to AirPlay devices, such as an Apple TV. Easily switch destination devices or resume the viewing on your iPad at any time. Another big step for the PBS for iPad app is multitasking support. In this case, the support of "fast app switching" allows a user to switch apps, like checking your email, then return to PBS for iPad and be right back to where you left off. One final change is that the hardware switch for the iPad can no longer mute the PBS for iPad app's audio -- supposedly, a nuisance for some users who forget that the switch is set to mute and activated. Further improvements for PBS for iPad include: - Several performance enhancements - New icon for the Programs menu - Improved alert messages for rights restricted content - Improved network detection and messaging - Improved episode browsing experience PBS for iPad is available in the App Store as a free download.
