MTV Networks' recently released VH1 Co-Star app for the iPad (free) allows users to watch both live and previously aired TV shows, while adding an interesting social twist. A feature called "WatchWith" displays relevant comments from tweets within the app, alongside each show. The feature, which MTV describes as being "like a DVR for social commentary," allows users to view and "like" comments from within the app. It's also possible to share comments via Facebook and Twitter. Once VH1 fans have linked the app with their Facebook or Twitter account, comments posted by friends and followers will be displayed ahead of others. As outlined by MTV, VH1 Co-Star's release notes:
WatchWith filters and records the best comments from all viewer tweets and marries them to the timeline of the show. It uses your iPad’s GPS to know your viewing timezone. When you tune-in to a live airing of a show, the scroll of comments will be cued up to the right moment in the show. And if you view an episode on demand, you can select the episode you’re watching to see the recorded comments for that episode.Furthermore, users can answer trivia within the app, and earn achievements (unfortunately, not via Game Center). Currently, the app is available to download for free. Check it out, and let us know your thoughts on VH1 Co-Star in the comments.
