Weather Motion HD: See And Hear The Weather Indoors Before Heading Outdoors
April 22, 2011
The iPad isn't just for games, reading, writing, and viewing movies away from your television. As with other iDevices, Apple's tablet is aesthetically pleasing with an endless source of information. Those very reasons are why developers have created elegant and very useful apps for things such as weather conditions and forecasts. One of the latest additions to the world of resourceful and modifiable decorative apps is Weather Motion HD.
Weather apps are pretty much weather apps, and using full screen videos isn't an entirely new concept for these types of apps. As with any other category, it's about what makes a particular offering unique and designed to fit the user's needs. Quite frankly, Weather Motion HD certainly reminds me of Weather HD by Vimov, but both apps have very noticeable differences.
As expected, Weather Motion HD contains current weather details and immediate forecast information available in Fahrenheit or Celsius, local time in 12 or 24-hour format, multiple location browsing and favorites, and a full screen high-definition video clip that depicts the conditions; where all of this works as a quick checker or running on your iPad in an elegant stand on an end table.
What sets this app apart from the others? Weather Motion HD contains ambient sounds to go along with the HD video animation, includes the option to set and manage alarms, and provides the date as well as the time. Although, I feel the biggest difference between Weather Motion HD and similar apps is the option to have the weather details in a minimal format at the bottom or front and center for quick and very easy viewing.
Allow me to give you a brief user interface overview. Placed around the weather details mid-screen are the controls for volume, low-key or standard viewing mode toggle, temperature measurement toggle, and location selection bar. The cloud in the top-left allows for the selection, addition, and management of locations. If it wasn't obvious, the alarm clock icon gives access to alarm creation, management, and time format selection. Give a swipe left or right nearly anywhere on the screen to view the immediate forecast for that location.
Weather Motion HD is compatible with iPad running iOS 3.2 or later, and available in the App Store for $.99.
