Apple Store App Updated: Adds Custom Configure For New Macs & Improved In-Store Services

May 23, 2011
Apple has just updated its official Apple Store app, adding custom configuration options (when purchasing new Macs) and improved in-store services. The latest version of the app (1.3) is currently available to download for free. As outlined in the app's release notes, new features include:
  • Enhanced in-store mode lets you get help and support quickly when you’re at an Apple Retail Store.
  • The ability to custom-configure a new Mac with the options you want.
Custom configuration for new Mactinosh computers is definitely a handy feature. Now, customers can build up a customized Mac from within the Apple Store app, choosing specific components such as the RAM, HDDs, displays and processors. Furthermore, users of the app can now get in-store support from an Apple Store employee much easier than before, and it's available internationally. Unfortunately, the application is not yet universal - meaning it won't run natively on an iPad, which is a shame. Hopefully, Apple will update the app accordingly in the near future, adding native support for the iPad. Until then, be sure to check out the latest version of Apple Store on your iPhone or iPod touch, and let us know your thoughts on the update in the comments.
