Instagram Gains Version 1.8 Update, Three Cool Features

May 26, 2011
One of the App Store’s most popular photo-taking apps has received yet another update. Instagram has been updated to Version 1.8, one week after its last. With it, the app includes some new interactive features. Created by Burbn, Inc., Instagram arrived on the scene in 2010. Since then, 3.75 million users have downloaded the app, according to its iTunes page. Version 1.8 includes two significant features: Double-tap to Like and an Interactive Comments Screen. The first allows users to simply tap twice on a photo to like it! You’ll see a white heart appear briefly to let you know your like was recorded. The new Interactive Comment Screen shows up when tapping “comment” near a picture. If you want to manage comments on a photo, just click on the gear icon in the top right corner. You can also swipe left/right to remove comments. Another new feature, as explained on the Instagram blog:
Autocomplete Usernames: In comments, enter @ followed by the first letter(s) of the username or display name of the user you want to mention in your comment. A list of users you follow and users who have commented on the photo will appear; the more letters you type, the more refined the list becomes. Tapping a result from that list will autocomplete the username for you, so no need to type it all out manually.
The free Instagram app for iPhone/iPod touch is available in the App Store.
