Popular Instagram App Receives Update
May 17, 2011
One of the App Store’s most popular photo-taking apps has received a nice update. Instagram has been updated to Version 1.7. With it, the app includes a number of new features, plus older iPhone users will notice the app is speedier on their handset.
Created by Burbn, Inc., Instagram arrived on the scene in 2010. Since then, 3.75 million users have downloaded the app, according to its iTunes page.
Version 1.7 includes two significant features: a grid/list photo view and profile bio. The first allows users to switch between grid and list views when looking at a user’s profile. This option is also available on location and tag pages.
The profile bio is an optional 150-word block, which you can use to tell your followers more about yourself. The profile will show on your user page.
Other features include, according to the Instagram blog:
Import Profile Photos from Facebook/Twitter: Use your Facebook or Twitter profile photo on Instagram by tapping Profile > Change profile picture > Import from Facebook / Import from Twitter. Additional Settings for Push Notifications: Tap the Profile tab > Edit Profile > Push Notifications to edit your notification settings. You can now choose to receive like and comment notifications from everyone or only from the people you follow. Note that Push Notifications for Instagram must be turned ON in the Settings app for these additional settings to work (details here). More clear when geotagging is turned on: In addition to the green map marker, "Geotagged" will appear in the Where? field if location is turned on. This means that the lat/long of your current location will be tagged with the photo. Just tap the green map marker to turn off geotagging.
