SoundHound Gets Some Smoothing Out, Even More To Share, And Overall Improvements
May 6, 2011
The popular music tagging app, SoundHound, got polished up a bit this week. The minor update brought user interface tweaks, performance and stability improvements, plus an expansion on the social-networking integration.
SoundHound's user interface has only been slightly modified to provide better consistency and emphasize the sharing ability. On the artist, album, and song information panes, the Download on iTunes button has moved up for iPhone and iPod touch users to accommodate the now double-sized Share button. Along with making things more consistent, the Bookmark and Share buttons now have the same raised look as the Download button for quicker locating.
In what I'd imagine to be a frequently requested feature, SoundHound now offers the ability to quickly share the currently playing iPod song using the same Twitter, Facebook, email, and text message system available in the other parts of the app. A Share This Song button appears above the lyrics, which is immediately displayed for iPhone and iPod touch users tapping on Now Playing. Since the iPad always shows Now Playing in the bottom-left, you'll need to tap on the right arrow next to the playback controls to bring up the lyrics section.
Overall improvements contained in SoundHound v3.6.2 include quicker responsiveness and stability, plus more efficient geotagging. Personally, I haven't seen any boost in performance, and sometimes even experienced longer loading times for artist, album, and song information. Have you noticed better performance? Are you finally excited to have a way to share the currently playing iPod song?
SoundHound is a universal app compatible with iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch running iOS 3.0 or later. The premium SoundHound ∞ is available in the App Store for $6.99, and the ad-supported SoundHound is available in the App Store as a free download.
