Flipboard's Latest Update Brings LinkedIn Content & Improved Navigation

June 30, 2011
The folks behind the popular Flipboard iPad app have yet another new contributor and an improved navigation system. Articles from LinkedIn are now available via the free app. Version 1.5 of Flipboard is a significant one. For one, users can now do better searching using the app’s new Content Guide. Available after a tap of the ever-present red ribbon in the top right, the Guide lets you search for any person, top or blog you’re interested in, or simply browse recommended sections arranged by category. In addition, Flipboard now includes the ability to save more content. Once you find a section that you love, you can save it as a Favorite on your Flipboard by tapping the blue “add” button in the upper left. You can also setup two pages of Favorites as tiles on your Flipboard, which is very cool. Other new features include:
  • LinkedIn. The largest network of your trusted professional contacts is now on Flipboard. Add LinkedIn to create an industry magazine for reading what your contacts have shared, as well as news from over 40 industries with LinkedIn Today.
  • Popular. Popular stories are highlighted, making it easy to discover great articles being read on Flipboard.
  • Speed. Flipping is faster and diving into stories is more streamlined. A single tap gets you to the article, social interactions are now at the bottom of the page, and now you can flip from one story to the next to keep reading between articles, photos, and updates from friends.
According to Mike McCue, CEO and Co-founder of Flipboard:
“This edition of Flipboard makes it easier than ever to explore amazing content, from tech to world news. And whatʼs so powerful is that itʼs all coming from the Social Web where you can quickly find great photos, breaking stories, updates from friends or news from sources you follow. Itʼs a very real-time, immersive experience.”
In the past few months, Flipboard has added a number of new features, including exclusive content from Oprah Winfrey and more. Flipboard, which as always been a favorite here at AppAdvice, is available in the App Store.
