New Location-Based Angry Birds Update In The Works?

June 17, 2011
According to a recent article, Rovio is planning on adding some location-based features to Angry Birds in a future update, dubbed "Magic." The news comes from GigaOM, in an article that hit the Web several days ago. According to the website:
Rovio is looking to take Angry Birds local with location-based integration, which will now enhance the game play for users when they visit real-world locations.
We're guessing that such a feature will hit the iPhone, too - although the article does reference NFC features, which the current iPhone obviously cannot take advantage of. Further features of Magic include the ability to access new content (like the Mighty Eagle) at NFC tags or specific locations. Hopefully the iPhone's lack of NFC capability won't prevent us from missing out on all of Magic's features. Apparently, the update will go live later this year - meaning there is still time for Apple to release an NFC capable iPhone (although, we do think this is unlikely). If this doesn't happen, Rovio notes that services like Bump could help smart phone owners who haven't yet been graced with NFC capability. We'll keep you posted.
