NaturalMotion Takes Backbreaker 2 To The iPad And Brings Out The Skates For Icebreaker Hockey
June 4, 2011
Earlier this week, NaturalMotion, creators of Jenga and Jenga HD, finally provided the native iPad version of Backbreaker 2, Backbreaker 2: Vengeance HD, and took the series to the ice rinks with Icebreaker Hockey.
For those of you who are fans of the Backbreaker series taking the best components of American football and placing them into an action-packed game; it's time to check out Icebreaker Hockey. This new addition to the series takes the colossal hits and last moment moves to the ice rinks.
Very similar to Backbreaker, Icebreaker Hockey has you dodging defenders in ever increasing waves on your way to the goal. Use clever turns and sweeps to send opponents swerving past you, or add a bit more style -- and points -- using more specialized maneuvers like hard stops to make those aggressive defenders slam into the wall. Of course, it wouldn't be complete without celebration moves to finish things off.
Icebreaker Hockey includes Game Center support, both Challenge and Endurance modes, eight original team uniforms, unlockable items, and high quality graphics using advanced OpenGL ES 2.0 techniques.
It's now six months since the iPhone and iPod touch version of Backbreaker 2: Vengeance became available, and now fans can jump on the native iPad version of the game. Not likely something current Backbreaker 2: Vengeance owners will flock to, but those with an iPad who've passed on the iPhone version should certainly take a look. As with a few other games, iPad 2 owners get the advantage of even better graphics than any other iDevice, however, I don't see that single feature worth re-buying the game.
Backbreaker 2: Vengeance intensifies NaturalMotion's hard-hitting football to a new level. Adding to the original title's gameplay are 100 new waves, plus more moves and obstacles for your player to hurdle, spin, juke, crush, and rush by. In addition, the successor contains the new Vengeance game mode, Retina display worthy graphics, improved lighting effects, Game Center integration, and two new stadiums, including one previously only available on the console version. Vengeance mode turns the field around by letting you bring the pain through monstrous tackles.
Backbreaker 2: Vengeance HD is compatible with iPad running iOS 3.2 or later, and available in the App Store for $2.99. Icebreaker Hockey is designed for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 3.0 or later, and available in the App Store for $2.99. Game Center features require a compatible iDevice running iOS 4.1 or later.
