My InstaAlbum Helps You Organize And Save Your Instagram Photos

June 27, 2011

My InstaAlbum - save my Instagram Photos & share ($0.99) by Positano Cat Studio is an app to help you keep track of all of your own photos from Instagram.

Have you ever wanted a better way to keep track of your Instagram photos? Sure, there's the Instagram app itself, but that gets cluttered up with all of your friend's photos as well, and other features. We're just talking about an app for your photos only. No, Apple's Camera Roll doesn't really organize your Instagram-specific photos either, so that's not an option. This where My InstaAlbum comes in.

The first thing to do in My InstaAlbum is to log in to your Instagram account. This allows the app to fetch all of your photos on Instagram to be accessed from this app. Options to log in to Twitter, Facebook, and Dropbox are also there for easy sharing access (in case you missed sharing on Twitter or Facebook for a particular photo, or upload to Dropbox as a backup).

Once all of the logins are taken care of, it's time to view your InstaAlbum. Remember, these are only your photos, and no one else's. There are three ways to view your photos in My InstaAlbum: Album, Group, and Location.

Album view is just as it says--you can view all of your photos here. There are two different view styles: Grid and Calendar.

In Grid, your photos are organized by months (in the format of "yearmonth"), and there will be a count of how many pictures you uploaded that month.

The Calendar brings up an iOS style calendar, with dots on days that you uploaded a photo. Selecting a day with photos will bring up thumbnails of the images in the space beneath the calendar.

Within Album view is another useful feature, regardless of being in Grid or Calendar view: batch select. This will allow you to select as many photos as you need, and you will have the option to save these photos to your device or copy to the clipboard, or share to Dropbox, email, Facebook, or MMS.

In Group view, you can view photos by tag, place, or filter. For each of these different groups, you can also sort by number of photos, alphabetically, or by most recent.

I like this particular view, because it allows me to see my most used filters (which are X-Pro II and Earlybird, if you wanted to know). I am not a big user of tags on Instagram, but it's nice to see the places where I upload photos the most.

The final view, Locations, allows you to view all the places you've uploaded a photo from with red push pins. You can switch between Map, Satellite, and Hybrid views, just like with the iOS Maps app.

Tapping on any photo to will allow you to view it in the full Instagram size. You'll get information like the description of the photo, when it was uploaded, location, and filter used. There's also a button to take you to the Instagram app to view it (view comments and likes).

The only thing that bothers me about the app is the drop shadow on the text when viewing a photo. In my opinion, it's not necessary, since it can make the text a bit harder to read than without it.

I found My InstaAlbum to be useful. It may be a bit of a niche, but if you're one that wants to keep track of your own Instagram photos, then this does a great job of it.
