Money Reader: Cash Identification For The Visually Impaired

July 19, 2011
LookTel Money Reader is a new iPhone app that uses the handset's camera to identify cash. The application has the ability to recognize notes from $1 up to $100, and is designed to allow visually impaired iPhone owners to quickly count up cash. The application is currently available to download for $1.99, and relies on LookTel's object recognition technology. According to Kelly Hodgkins of TUAW, LookTel is hoping its technology will soon be able to recognize landmarks, objects and even text. However, this application concentrates on cash only, and does the job well: Counting happens in real-time, and can be done by simply pointing the iPhone at a note. Furthermore, Money Reader doesn't require an Internet connection, meaning it can be used wherever, whenever. The application is compatible with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and fourth generation iPod touch. As mentioned, Money Reader is priced at $1.99. Take a look at the app, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
