Not Smart: Samsung Allegedly Copies Apple Again [Updated]
July 18, 2011
Samsung should expect another lawsuit from Apple. The tech giant recently approved the Smart Case for the company’s Galaxy Tab 10.1. And yes, you guessed it; the case looks exactly like Apple’s own line of Smart Covers, right down to the colors, in news first reported by 9 To 5 Mac.
In what can only be described as nothing less than copying, Samsung has given the green light for a line of covers for its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet. Available in black, red, orange, green, and blue, the Smart Cases are designed and marketed by Anymode, a company that has very close ties to Samsung.
Accordingly:
Apparently Sang-yong Kim, the Anymode CEO, was “born in Samsung family”. Jun tells us – and you’re free to take it at face value – that the Anymode CEO “is nephew of the Samsung’s chairman Kun-Hee Lee“, the claim we were unable to verify at the time of this writing. The 69-year old chairman of Samsung Electronics stepped down in April 2008 amid the Slush funds scandal, but returned at the group’s helm in March of last year. He is credited for improving the quality of Samsung’s design and products. If improving the quality means copying someone else’s work, Anymode is doing a fantastic job, don't you think? You may recall that Apple and Samsung are currently embroiled in a patent lawsuit, with Apple claiming Samsung has copied its iPhone and iPad designs. Surely someone in Cupertino, California is drafting another lawsuit as we speak. What do you think? Let us know below. Update: It seems that Samsung is now trying to distance itself from this product, by removing it from sale and stating it had not officially certified it according to The Next Web. We'll keep you posted.
