Pop The Balls In The Fast-Paced Arcade Puzzler Balltastic Boombastic!
Balltastic Boombastic! ($0.99) by Beauty of the Fall Productions is a simple and fun arcade puzzle game for the iPhone in which you must pop different colored balls. Rid the screen of the these little guys — before they completely take over — as they are constantly falling into your giant ball pit.
Not too long ago, I reviewed a game similar to Snood and Frozen Bubble, but with a twist. Well, Balltastic Boombastic is in the exact same vein as these games, but leans more towards Tetris-like gameplay.
The graphics in this game are amazing. They're optimized for fourth generation iDevices, but still look great on third generation phones. The music is original, too, and really gets you in the race-to-win mood.
Pop the balls of two or more of the same color to get rid of them. As with most games like this, the more you take out at once, the higher the points. Also, aim to complete objectives which will unlock game enhancements and customizations.
After playing for a while, I soon realized that you must pay close attention when getting rid of the balls. Sometimes they are right next to each other but haven't settled in yet, so that when you try to pop them they won't disappear. Make sure to tap them when they're literally touching to get rid of them once and for all.
Sometimes, an awkwardly huge ball with a number on it will fall onto your screen. These guys are just trying to mess you up by taking up space, so get rid of them as soon as possible. To do this, you must tap the number of times indicated on the ball itself.
This is a really fun game, but I can see the player tiring of it fast. Although there are things to unlock and achieve, it's still the same thing over and over. But, then again, so is Tetris.
So, if you enjoy arcade puzzlers and fast-paced gameplay, try this one on for size. Especially if you're a Snood or Tetris fan, you really can't go wrong when it's only one dollar.
