Samsung Quickly Kills Smart Case Line In Attempt To Avoid Apple's Wrath
July 19, 2011
Remember those Smart Cases for Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet that looked eerily similar to Apple’s patented Smart Cover line for the iPad 2? They’re now gone and no longer for sale, according to Electronista.
It was just yesterday we told you about Anymode’s line of covers that looked very similar to the product Apple sells for its tablet, right down to the color choices available.
However, despite receiving a “Designed for Samsung Mobile” mark, the cases are now history as the company looks to distance itself from the third-party case manufacturer.
Samsung has released the following statement:
"As a general practice, Samsung Electronics reviews and approves all accessories produced by partners before they are given the "Designed for Samsung Mobile" mark. "In this case, approval was not given to Anymode for the accessory to feature this official designation. We are working with Anymode to address this oversight and the product has already been removed from the Anymode sales website. The product has not been sold."You may recall that Apple and Samsung are currently embroiled in a patent lawsuit, with Apple claiming Samsung has copied its iPhone and iPad designs. Apparently this was one potential lawsuit Samsung was unwilling to fight. What do you think? Let us know below.
