Sky Go Universal App Now Available: TV On-The-Go For UK Apple Fans

July 21, 2011
Good news, UK Apple fans: The Sky Go online streaming service we told you about recently has launched, and the accompanying iOS application is now available in the App Store. The app, Sky Go, can be downloaded for free, and is natively compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The service, which is free for existing Sky TV customers (who have subscribed to Sky Sports 1 and 2), allows users to watch TV and movies online in a desktop browser, or within the recently released iOS app. It's possible to register two devices with the service, and TV can be watched on both devices at the same time over Wi-Fi or 3G. As outlined in the app's release notes:
Get more from Sky Sports with the new Sky Go app, which gives Sky TV customers with Sky Sports 1 & 2 access to the sports they love wherever they are in the UK and Ireland for FREE. So if you’re stuck at work or on the train you needn’t miss the action with all five Sky Sports channels, plus Sky News on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. It’s like having your TV in your pocket and taking it wherever you go.
I've been playing around with the application, and the quality is great (bear in mind that it does take a few seconds to buffer). The application allows users to watch TV and movies live (currently, I'm watching Price of Persia on my iPad while writing this), and live video can be paused or rewound. All in all, the service is great. And if you're an existing Sky TV customer (subscribed to Sky Sports 1 and 2), Sky Go isn't going to cost you a penny. Take a look at Sky Go in the App Store or head over to the service's official website, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
