Spotify Updated: Adds Support For Playlist Folders & Several Fixes

July 6, 2011
Great news, Spotify fans: While the popular music streaming service isn't yet available in the U.S.A., the official Spotify iPhone app has received another update. Now, users of the application can take advantage of playlist folders, and several fixes and improvements. The application allows Spotify Premium subscribers to stream music to an iOS device, and listen to it on-the-go. Personally, I absolutely love this application - with it, there's no need to waste precious space on your iPhone with music files. Instead, you can stream music to your handset with Spotify over Wi-Fi or a cellular data network, and for those rare times when you don't have an Internet connection, important playlists can be synced to your handset and listened to offline. Perhaps the best thing about Spotify, is that the application is receiving continual updates from its developer, which improve and enhance the app. Indeed, my only qualm with the Spotify is that it's still not universal. The latest update to the application (0.4.14) adds support for "playlist folders," besides a variety of fixes. As outlined in the app's release notes, changes include:
  • New: Support for playlist folders.
  • Fixed: Playlist name is no longer truncated when a playlist is loaded.
  • Fixed: Opening links when the app is not open has been improved.
  • Changed: Shuffle behaviour. Shuffle is now only turned off when you play from a new list if it was implicitly turned on by 'Shuffle play'.
  • Fixed: Some songs incorrectly ended a second early. This has been fixed.
If you're a Spotify Premium subscriber, take a look at the application's latest update now. The app itself - Spotify - is available to download in the App Store for free.
