Miramax, an independent and foreign film distributor, is releasing a new Facebook movie rental app. The app features ways to watch movies on the iPad, computers and through Google TV. The new digital app is called the Miramax eXperience.
The social networking powerhouse, Facebook, seems to be moving into a new venue of media distribution. "We are big believers in Facebook and what it could mean for the future of the content business," Said Miramax in their blog post about this new feature.
The cost of a movie rental is 30 Facebook credits, which translates to $3.00. The film will remain available for 48 hours after your purchase.
Currently, there are 20 films in the app, but more will be added. Some of the films include: "Pulp Fiction," "Good Will Hunting," "Gangs of New York," and "The Switch." Also included are clips from the various movies to help in your rental decision.
It would only make sense to have social media integration in this app, so Mirmax provides opportunites to play games and share your movie viewing experience with your friends on Facebook. In a statement from Miramax, they said:
It was important to us that Facebook users could easily invite and interact with their friends, by leveraging the social graph via games and other features such as enabling friends to “like” movies. If you would like to get rolling with this new app from Miramax, you can check it out on Facebook.
