Keep Track Of Your Errands, Dates And Reminders With Powerful Flexibility In Doozy Plus Win A Copy!

August 8, 2011

Doozy ($2.99) by Raj Bains is an advanced productivity app with some powerful features. It can seem daunting at first, but once learned will be simple and useful.

The main features are lists, notes, events and calendars. Lists and notes are where information is stored for things you want to remember, events are a way of joining those lists and notes together with the calendar, which allows display of the information in a way that is convenient to access.

The app starts out showing a calendar day. At the top is the date with the days in a scroll bar.

Below that is a colored bar with five buttons: in-app help, add events, edit events, lists and notes. Below the bar is a white space for showing events. The bottom, middle slot shows the date you are currently viewing.

Lists and notes are very straightforward. They can be created to stand individually or to be attached to an event.

If you would like a list, note, or other reminder to show on the calendar display, you can create an event. For example, an event can show a shopping list in two days’ time, a note on the same day every month or a reminder for a daily task.

There are six types of events: Display (attach a list/note), Toggle (done/not done), Progress (percentage complete of a list), Number Amount (enter a number such as miles cycled each day), Bodybuilding (allows three amounts; sets, reps and weight), and Weather (based on current location).

Make sure you toggle the top right switch to on or your event will not display on the calendar.

Only eight events can be shown on the calendar. Create additional calendar displays, each having its own name and color, by double tapping the bottom date.

You could have one calendar for daily errands, one for exercise, one for entertainment, etc.

Despite the good things about the app, there are a few shortcomings. Currently, there are no notifications or syncing. They are being worked on and syncing will be available with iCloud. There also won’t be an iPad-specific version unless the iPhone version is successful.

The types of events that can be created are rather limited. The developer is, however, open to suggestions on all aspects of the app and will add them as he is able.

Event frequency doesn’t include “every two weeks.” This hardly breaks the app, but is a limitation that should be addressed in a future update.

Although the app may seem very convoluted, it is very easy to use. With Doozy’s ubiquitous use of color and flexibility, you need never forget an important event, birthday or anniversary again.

There is a chance for you to win a copy of this app. Leave a comment at the bottom (with a valid email address so we can contact the winner) by Friday, August 12 at 1 p.m. PDT. The winner will be chosen randomly. Good luck!
