Infinity Field ($0.99) by Chillingo Ltd is an arcade shooter with a great flashy style whose brilliant and colorful effects will have you gaping at your screen. It is very simple to play and quite addictive with smooth responsive controls.

You fly around a simple two-dimensional little ship bound within neon walls while geometrically shaped objects spawn and fly towards you. Or at least I think it’s a spaceship. As your ship and other objects move around they light up the black screen behind them to look like a bunch of vicious amoebas flying around attacking each other. Maybe it’s just me, but whatever you call them, don’t let them touch you. It doesn’t take much to lose one of your three lives.

To help with this threat, there are various new weapons you can pick up while flying around which make you considerably more powerful.

On the bottom left is your movement joystick while on the right is the firing stick. Most enemies die with one shot, but they all die in exuberant explosions that ripple through the screen. There are six survival modes and a campaign to choose from.

The survival modes include varying styles ranging from just staying alive by shooting at everything to having to seek out nuclear bombs to annihilate everything on the screen with one explosive move. Or you could go for Snake mode which has a laser beam connecting your head and tail which can be used to zap anything in your way. Plus, with around 36 levels in the campaign, there’s plenty of fun to be had.

To see everything, you must scroll around using your movement stick, but if you would like to see all the action at once, change to Classic display. Personally I prefer the former as the Classic display sometimes has your ship moving under your fingers.

Playing earns you in-game credits which you can spend at the shop to upgrade your ship and the various weapons available.

If you’re looking for your next fast-paced, action-packed shooter with a lot of polish and flare, look no further, Infinity Field is for you.
