Kiki Fish ($0.99) by Underwater Labs is a charming distraction of a game with a zippy little fish who is terribly eager to eat as much as possible while keeping safe. The aim is to collect the required number of points in the allotted amount of time.

You collect points by making Kiki swim into starfish falling from above which have different colors and give different amounts of points. Gold gives one point, pink gives two and green gives four.

Occasionally, a small white glowing object will drop down. Make sure you swim into those as they greatly increase your speed for a short time.

To make Kiki move, pull a finger from the fish in the direction opposite to where you want him to go. Think of it as having an elastic band attached to his tail which you pull back. When you let go, the elastic band snaps forward and propels the fish. He doesn’t get far but he sure gets there quickly.

You have to be careful, however, as there is a danger in those calm waters. In addition to the starfish, there are also black urchins falling from above. Swimming into an urchin will cause you to lose a point making it more difficult to beat the clock.

I sometimes found that Kiki would get stuck near a wall or the floor and it was quite difficult to move him away. Fortunately, there is a simple solution: just shoot him into the wall and he’ll bounce right off and back toward the middle of the tank.

Where all these starfish and urchins are coming from is a great mystery, but one thing is certain, Kiki Fish is a challenging and addictive game. Despite the simple design, it should keep you hungry for more.
