Perfect RSS Reader Is A Winner With Google Reader
Perfect RSS Reader ($1.99) by Connect Technology Co., Ltd adds more functionality to your standard Google Reader feed.
Being used to using Reeder on my iPad, I wondered if there was any room for one more RSS reader. As it turns out, Perfect RSS lives up to its name. I’ve even considered using it as my primary app for RSS. So what did it for me?
The interface is the main thing I liked about this app. The design has a paper feel to it, as if you were actually looking at a book.
There’s just something very common about having a lot of buttons in a reader app. Reeder certainly has a host of them running down the screen’s far left. While Perfect RSS does have buttons included in the interface, more of its functionality depends upon gestures.
Another key difference in the interface is landscape versus portrait mode. With Reeder, landscape gives you more options than when you switch to portrait. With Perfect RSS, however, none of the buttons change, since most of them don’t even exist.
There are numerous ways to customize the app for your comfort. Each article shows to the right of the feed titles. However, a quick swipe will make the article full screen. You can continue reading through your list of articles by swiping up when at the bottom of the first article. The gestures are also customizable under the settings menu.
If I could change one thing about this app, it would be to show the feed site’s icon to the side of the article title. Maybe it’s just one of my (many) idiosyncrasies, but I like to know where the articles are coming from before I look at them. With all of my Mac sites set up, differentiating one article from the other becomes messy.
In the end, that is just a nitpicky thing. Everything else about this app is golden.
