Facebook Is Changing - For The Better
September 21, 2011
Competition is always good, especially in the tech industry. This is especially true thanks to the recent introduction of Google’s social networking site, Google+, and how it is affecting Facebook for the better. Case in point, the many changes Facebook has implemented in recent days.
According to Gizmodo, the world’s No. 1 social network site now offers one feature Google+ users have already been using, plus a few others.
More specifically, Facebook users can now send updates to one or more groups without sending to all. Sounds a lot like circles in Google+, don’t you think?
Other enhancements include a news ticker, which reminds us a lot of Twitter depending on how many updates you receive, and an improved news feed.
Here, Facebook envisions a digest of sorts where you’ll learn more about “people whose profiles you actually visit” and see “only the types of updates your actually care about.”
The news feed has also be introduced into the Facebook for iPhone app too, as this photo shows:
Other recent Facebook.com changes include how photos are viewed (they are now HUGE) and the introduction of subscriptions. These give you the ability to follow someone without actually becoming their Facebook friend.
It’s nice to see Facebook is not sitting around doing nothing, but instead making changes and additions to its service as necessary. For us especially, we love being able to send updates to a select group of users. Well done, Facebook!
