Two New Facebook Photo Apps Arrive
September 12, 2011
Two new apps have arrived in as many days that make it easier to view Facebook photos on an iDevice. DropBook is for the iPhone/iPod touch, while FBPhotoGrabber HD is for the iPad exclusively. Still, we're not sure you need either one.
Dropbook
Created by Fausto Dassenno, DropBook lets you access and download Facebook photos, both your own and those of your friends. In addition, it identifies those photos from your friends that are tagged with your name. Choosing photos to save to your iPhone’s Camera Roll is as simple as clicking on each and then selecting “download.”
FBPhotoGrabber HD
Meanwhile, MindsLab’s FBPhotoGrabber HD app works basically the same way, but on the iPad.
After logging into your account for the first time, you’ll have access to all of your Facebook photos, and again, those of your friends. Each photo can then be downloaded to your Camera Roll, as a group or one at a time.
Other features include:
It's hard to make a comparison between each app, because they each work on different iDevices. Still, it's worth noting that Dropbook's interface is much more intuitive, while FBPhotoGrabber HD has more functionality. Yet, while each app works as expected, neither one is necessary because there are better (and cheaper) apps on the market. For one, the official Facebook app for iPhone handles photos just fine. Plus, unlike Dropbook, the app is free. Second, for the iPad, we’d recommend the unofficial Facebook Photo Album over FBPhotoGrabber. Again, this app is free, plus its interface is terrific. Both DropBook ($.99) and FBPhotoGrabber HD ($.99) are available now.
