Apple Announces Its Figures At iPhone Event
So far, the App Store has seen 18 billion application downloads.
There are 500 thousand applications in the App Store, 140 thousand of which are iPad apps.
200 million iOS devices have been sold so far, making iOS the number one mobile operating system.
The iPad currently boasts a 95 percent satisfaction rate.
iPhone 4 sales account for half of Apple's total iPhones sold in the entire time the company has been selling iPhones. It’s the number one smart phone in the world.
The iTunes Store currently houses 20 million songs, and is the number one music store in the world.
According to Tim: “Across the last 10 years the iPod became the number one music player in the world. And in the US the market share has been above 70 percent for a very long time. Over that period of time we’ve cumulatively sold 300m iPods around the world.”
“To put that in context, it took Sony 30 years to sell 230,000 Walkman cassette players. The MP3 market is a mature market, and the iPod is still a large and important market for Apple. We’ve sold 45 million iPods in the last year ending in June. What’s more encouraging, is almost half of those are going to people buying their first iPod.”
The MacBook Air and iMac are the number one best-selling notebook and desktop in the United States.
OS X Lion has been downloaded six million times.
Clearly, Apple's success in the mobile operating market is down to the iOS' presence on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. While Android might score high in terms of smart phone operating systems, its poor tablet sales let the side down. Apple, however, has produced the most popular smart phone and an incredibly popular tablet, both of which conveniently run the same mobile operating system. The figures also point towards the success of the iOS: That is, iOS applications. With an App Store bursting with both iPhone and iPad apps, it's hard to imagine why anybody might choose a different mobile operating system over Apple's. Now, this "halo effect" seems to be reaching Macs, with Mac sales shooting towards the sky. The fact that OS X Lion has been downloaded over six million times evidences this.
