Apple Talks iOS 5 At iPhone Event - Announces October 12 Launch Date

Apple has just announced the release date of iOS 5 at its iPhone event in Cupertino, CA. Importantly, Apple noted that iOS 5 will launch on October 12.
The fifth major version of Apple's mobile operating system adds over 200 new features, including Notification Center, iMessage and Newsstand (which we have a heap of information on). Furthermore, the software update adds support for Apple's iCloud service, which was also announced today.

Apple's upcoming iOS 5 software update will be compatible with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, the third and fourth generation iPod touch, and the original iPad and the iPad 2. As mentioned, it will be available on October 12. Let us know if you're excited in the comments.
